Creative Cinema Summer School: Flea To The Circus

Video Details

A week long extravaganza of workshops for children inspired by the circus fun of Disney Pixar's 'A Bug's Life'. The workshops, which included puppetry, drama, circus skills, and composing a live score, gave kids the opportunity to explore some of the processes that go into making a film, taking what they’d seen on screen and letting their imaginations run wild.

Films inspire us. Whether an emotionally moving drama, a frenetically-charged action-packed adventure, or a heart warming comedy, the very best films can exhilarate, move, make us laugh, make us cry, or even motivate us to be creative. And no-one feels the visceral power of the movies quite like children.

It was this idea that inspired Watershed to team up with the Big Top @ Creative Common and Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival to present a week of workshops for children which encouraged them be inspired and get creative with a four-day long extravaganza of cinema-themed films and workshops.

Culminating in a big-top screening of A Bugs Life, the week's workshops were inspired by the heroically shambolic undercover circus performers which featured in the film, and included puppetry, drama, circus skills, and even composing a live score.

Bringing together the worlds of cinema and circus, the Creative Cinema Summer School gave kids the opportunity to explore some of the processes that go into making a film, taking what they’d seen on screen and letting their imaginations run wild.

Watershed worked with Bristol City Council to engage businesses, residents, and people travelling through Bristol Temple Quarter and the surrounding neighbourhoods in projects that delivered creative digital representation of the area.
