The Fade: Director's Q&A

3 Continents, 4 Barbers, 1 Cut - The Fade. It is more than just a haircut.

The Fade is an intimate portrait of four black barbers across the world, shot over seven days. The observational documentary reveals exactly what this profession means to society in the 21st century.

Set in Ghana, Jamaica, the USA and the UK, the film interweaves the babers' stories and examines the polarized opposites of the locations. Creating an international dialogue around the lives of four men who do the same thing in different time zones.

This documentary captures an essential part of black culture. An activity which represents more than simple grooming, it's an opportunity for discussion of politics, sports, culture, and of course women.

In this post-screening Q&A director Andy Mundy-Castle and Junior, a barber at Clippers in Bristol speak to Roger Griffith, a presenter on Ujima Radio. They answer questions from the audience about shooting the film, working with everyone from the stars to the rural barbers.
