Douglas Hart in Conversation

Despite proclaiming that 'making videos is boring' in the early days of The Jesus and Mary Chain, Douglas Hart later went on to become a music video director, working with an impressive range of bands between 1988 and 2011, including My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, The Libertines, The Horrors, Pet Shop Boys and The Vaccines.

In this event Hart's music videos were screened and discussed, and the event was rounded off with a screening of his short documentary Brazil '70, The Sexiest Kickoff which he made with BBC archive footage, and his 2012 short film Long Distance Information. This is Hart's first foray into short film making, and sees a departure from his use of small-guage film and video. Long Distance Information is a toucing and unexpectedly hilarious observation on family life, set in Scotland, but has a resonance for anyone who is a parent, or a child.

In this event Hart elaborates on his lo-fi creative process and the development of his work since the eighties. It was presented as part of Filmic 2013, Watershed and St George's annual three month exploration and celebration of the creative connections across film and music.
