This is achieved by providing people with the time, space and support to take creative risks, and because there is no immediate corporate incentive (which results in an environment of competition), the scheme also successfully removes that infamous barrier to creativity - the fear of making a mistake.

Media Sandbox is a collaborative ecosystem connecting creative talent with leading technology companies and content commissioners. By using a collaborative model and providing a supportive space and situation, the scheme nurtures innovation and technology across various industries, resulting in a fertile landscape where ideas cross-pollinate and creativity can bloom.

In 2010, seven £10,000 commissions were awarded to projects as diverse as a virtual horticultural mobile phone game, to a tactile, interactive electronic musical instrument, all of which have borne accompanying journals.
