Senna is an award-winning feature-length documentary film by director Asif Kapadia, based on the life and death of Brazilian Formula One world champion, Ayrton Senna da Silva. The film won Best Documentary Award at this 2011’s Sundance Film Festival, and received wide critical acclaim for it’s narrative construction from thousands of hours of archived television footage. Many of the reviews praised the film for it’s gripping, emotionally engaging story, and commented on the film’s ability to engage audiences who were not necessarily interested in motor racing.

In this Q&A director Asif Kapadia and writer/executive producer Manish Pandey discuss the origins of the film, the obstacles they encountered in its production, and the life and legacy of Ayrton Senna da Silva.

Asif Kapadia is an award-winning British filmmaker who is best known for his critically acclaimed films, The Sheep Thief (1997) winner of the 2nd Prize Cinéfondation for Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival, and The Warrior (2001) which won the BAFTA Award for Best British Film.

Manish Pandey is the writer and executive producer of Senna, and has worked on numerous features, television programmes, and commercials.
