Sequence

Watch the sequence three minutes into the film, 'chapter two: Proud Father' on the DVD, for nearly four minutes until the scene at the wedding.

  1. How does the camera position manufacture the comedy of the first shot (of Maneer filling his bath)?
  2. Reading the children's non verbal communication (their facial expressions, posture and tone of voice) how do you think they feel about getting 'dressed up'?
  3. What mood do you think is conveyed by the music in the sequence?
  4. What connotations does the use of 'eastern' music, mixed with the 'western' music, have?
  5. What does the framing and editing suggest when George presents Nazir?
  6. What sense of the community do you get as the Khan's are 'seen off'?
