Watershed Media Centre
Watershed's
Purpose
Watershed exists to provide opportunites for all to experience, enjoy and learn
about contemporary moving image media.
Watershed, one of the network of independent cinemas supported by the British Film Institute, currently houses two cinemas and a digital gallery as well as a digital facility where courses and creative digital work takes place. Our aim is to be accessible, and within our programme to offer choice beyond what is offered by commercial cinemas and web providers.
In a context where conventional arts practices are converging, Watershed aims to exhibit the new, the innovative and the creative. A key element of our plan is to develop a web presence through originating new work and provision of learning materials.

How
Crossing Over: The Marketing of East is East came about
Watershed has a wide range of visitors and is well used by teachers and their
students. Crossing Over: The Marketing of East is East is our third educational
web resource, The others can be found at www.watershed.co.uk/transparent/eduPack/
and www/depict.org/education
.
This resource came about as a result of hearing an excellent presentation from Pete Buckingham the then Head of Marketing at FilmFour, now Deputy Chief Executive, about the marketing of East is East. FilmFour was approached and permission was given to use the information provided in the presenatation for the web site. We employed Media Studies teacher and writer Nick Lacey, to write the materials and the site was produced and edited in house.
