Being aware of (or even referring to) these assessment objectives in the Discussion Board exchanges will help when claiming evidence for your exam. Teachers and students should agree on which tasks should be identified as evidence for specific exams.

A level Assessment Objectives

  • IT Key Skills Level 3
    IT3.1 Use appropriate techniques to plan how to find and select information for two different specific purposes.
    IT3.2 Explore, develop and exchange information, deriving new material from this to meet two different purposes
    IT3.3 Present information from different sources for two different purposes and audiences, using text, image and number.
  • Media Studies (MS)
    AO1 Knowledge and understanding of media forms, representations, audience debates and selected media industries
    AO2 Apply deconstruction techniques to analyse media texts, including their historical and institutional determinants
    AO3 Communicate clearly the knowledge, understanding and insight appropriate to media studies, using relevant terminology and accurate and coherent written expression
    AO4 Organise and present research on media texts in a coherent and logical manner
    AO6 Articulate independent opinions and judgements informed by different interpretations of media texts, issues and debates by other viewers and readers.
  • Film Studies (FS)
    AO2 Knowledge and understanding of how cinema functions as a business and as an institution. The relationship of cinema to audiences, together with the skills to articulate a critical understanding of their own participation as consumers, critics and fans within the social practice of cinema.
    Further knowledge and appreciation of producers and audiences, in particular locating specific cinema institutions within their economic, social and cultural contexts.

  • Media Studies (GMS1, 2, 3 or 4)
    1. Knowledge and understanding of the ways in which specific media texts are produced and of the organisations which produce them.
    2. Knowledge of the links between the media in terms of media forms, media concepts, media organisations and media issues.
    3. Representations produced by the media in society and the responses of audiences to them
    4. Apply technical and analytical terminology across a range of media.
  • Citizenship (draft proposal) (Cit AO2)
    AO2 Obtain, explain and interpret different kinds of information including from the media, in order to discuss, form and express an opinion formally, and in writing, and demonstrate an ability to analyse and present evidence on a variety of issues, problems and events.
