Navigation

[MS AO3]

This is the most unique element of Web sites that marks it out from any other medium. Remember that the hyperlink was the key feature of Berners-Lee’s idea of the Web. Hyperlinks can go to any site across the entire Web. However, when we talk about Navigation we are concerned with links that are internal to the site under scrutiny. These allow people to find their way around and make sense of this one site.

The following questions will help you to evaluate the three sites:

  • How easy or difficult was it to find your way around the site?
  • Describe what tools / methods for navigation you have found most easy to work with on the Web sites you have looked at?
  • Are the links easy to see?
  • Do they work properly?
  • Is it clear where you should go from the Home Page? And how to move on through from there?
  • Is a site map necessary? And if so, is one provided?
  • Once you have navigated deep into the site, is it easy to know where you are in relation to the Home Page. Can you find your way back?
