Following the announcement of the BFI’s five year strategy BFI2022, we are in the process of planning for the next period of the BFI Film Audience Network (FAN) and wanted to update you. Until January 2018, it’s business as usual with Film Hub SWWM and you can browse our website to find out more about us and available opportunities.
Earlier this year, the BFI invited applications from organisations to take on the Film Hub Lead role for regions and nations as part of the FAN for the period 2018-22, responding to priorities and criteria outlined in BFI2022. This includes greater responsibility around film festivals, community cinemas and talent development by bringing BFI NETWORK into the Film Hubs.
In England, the Film Hub regions have also been redrawn to align with Arts Council England’s boundaries. There will now be five English Film Hubs: South West, South East, London, Midlands and North in addition to nations Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales as illustrated on this map.
Building on our successful leadership of Film Hub South West & West Midlands, Watershed is leading on the bid for the South West area, which now includes Hampshire previously part of Film Hub South East. We are excited about potential for new collaborations and cultural partnerships within this area.
We are very much looking forward to working collaboratively with existing and new partners in the region and beyond to research and develop an inclusive approach that responds to regional strengths and needs, building on successes and key learnings from the first iteration of the BFI FAN.
The West Midlands will now be part of a newly created Midlands Hub stretching from Shropshire across to Lincolnshire, with Broadway, Nottingham, in a strategic partnership with Flatpack: Assemble, nominated to lead the bid. Therefore, from January 2018, West Midlands members will be part of Film Hub Midlands.
The Midlands Hub Lead Organisation will be in touch over the coming weeks and months to keep members updated and ensure the transition as smooth as possible. Do not hesitate to contact them if you want to find out more or would like to help shape their proposals for the next stage of the application. The key contacts are:
Amy Smart, Flatpack Assemble Project Manager (email@example.com / 0121 7711509)
Eleanor Thornley, Film Hub Central East Manager (firstname.lastname@example.org / 0115 8507815).
We of course remain at your disposal should you have any queries or suggestions. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you, as our valued members and colleagues, and look forward to seeing the new Midlands Hub develop as it moves forward into its next stage.
From January 2018, Hampshire members' new Hub will be Film Hub South West. Until January 2018, it’s business as usual with Film Hub South East and you can visit their website to find out more about them and available opportunities.
During this period of transition, we – together with the Film Hub South East team – will be working hard to ensure that there is as much continuity as possible and you are able to continue your vital work in the region. You will of course remain part of the UK wide Film Audience Network (FAN).
