launch event

5/4/00

the launch event was organised by business studies GNVQ students from St Mary Redcliffe & Temple School, and was held at Watershed on 5/4/00.

in preparation for the launch, during the afternoon of the 5th, St Mary Redcliffe & Temple art GNVQ students edited, trimmed and mounted their work in Concourse 2. This wall based element of the project consisted of photographic montages of images taken around Harbourside manipulated in Photoshop and printed on a colour inkjet printer. These images will be exhibited in Concourse 2 until mid May.

feedback from the audience about the content of the work was extremely favourable, with both the Halifax and the Architecture Centre booking the exhibition for as soon as possible.

lively discussion of the work took place in the Video Suite, the concourse, the digital facility, and later in the bar.

we are grateful to Sally Watson, Education Officer at the Architecture Centre, who had agreed at extremely short notice to attend as guest speaker, and who was very complimentary about the work the students presented

the event was introduced by Lois Thorn from Learning Partnership West, Naomi Snedker represented Halifax plc, who sponsored the project. Anne Begg and Anne Vicars, St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School governors also attended. Most of the other guests were parents and friends of students who had taken part in the project.

by 4.45pm with the event due to start at 5.00pm the stress was starting to show, with students wanting stiff drinks from the bar. (They were advised to wait till they were 18.) St Mary Redclffe & Temple students were putting the finishing touches to their work in Concourse 2, laminating text panels and finding blue tack.

a Powerpoint presentation prepared by Henbury IT GNVQ students took place in the Video Suite and the web site was available on Apple Mac machines in the digital facility for the audience to browse through.
