Position: Café/Bar Assistant: Part Time
Grade: 5
Rate of Pay: £5.95ph
Responsible to: Café/Bar Management
Purpose of Job:
To provide an effective Café/Bar service to our customers and to operate as part of the Café/Bar team.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Work as part of the catering team and support the team to maintain the highest standards of service and cleanliness.
- Gain awareness of all products available on the Café/Bar menu to ensure effective advice to customers.
- Serve a wide range of hot and cold beverages to a high standard, including use of an espresso machine and undertake basic cellar work.
- Be aware of, and undertake clearing and cleaning requirements in the Café/Bar areas and kitchen before, during and after opening hours.
- Operate computerised tills and PDQ machine accurately, take appropriate payments from customers, follow correct procedures for all transactions and give correct change for cash transactions.
- Maintain awareness of stock control and rotation, and record movement and wastage of stock.
- Maintain high levels of customer care at all times, ensuring the highest possible standards in presentation and quality of food and beverages served.
- Deal effectively with staff and customers by being flexible in accommodating to their needs and prioritise tasks effectively without the need for supervision.
- Comply with and maintain health, safety and hygiene standards within all catering areas.
- Participate in training and development to ensure effective service to our customers.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute ideas where possible.
- Communicate and co-operate effectively with staff in other areas of the building.
- Adhere to the rota request format and follow appropriate procedures for notifying absence.
- Carry out any other duties that can reasonably be expected of you in the effective running of the Catering provision.
Key Performance Indicators:
- Ensure awareness of products on Cafe/Bar menu.
- Keep areas tidy before, during and after opening hours, taking account of Health, Safety and Hygiene.
- Delivers the highest standard of customer care to staff and customers at all times.
- Competent at serving hot and cold beverages and using espresso machine.
- Deal effectively with financial transactions.
- Comply with and maintains health and hygiene standards in all catering areas.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Previous experience in a similar role and environment.
- Proven experience of delivering excellent customer service.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- General awareness of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- General awareness of Food Safety legislation and best practices.
Desirable:
- Health and Safety training.
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Knowledge of electronic point of sale systems (EPOS).
- Appreciation for working in an arts environment.
Terms and Conditions:
- Annual leave of 22 days per annum rising to 27 days after two years continuous employment. All holidays calculated pro rata.
- A free meal will be provided for you whilst on duty.
- Thirteen-week probationary period.
- Your working week will comprise of shifts to include weekends and evenings.
- A taxi will be provided to take you home if your shift finishes after 11pm and if you live within the city limits.
- A Stakeholder Pension Scheme is available to all Watershed staff, which is operated by the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, who uses The Prudential.
- Watershed is open seven days a week, including bank holidays. As such, a flexible attitude is expected to ensure the Cafe/Bar remains operational at all times.
- Holiday dates need to be agreed with the Cafe/Bar manager at least three weeks in advance so that the cafe/bar is not left short staffed at busy times, and so that overlaps do not occur.
