Position: Chef
Grade: 4 (£7.01 per hour) Part-time position
Responsible to: Executive Chef and Kitchen Service Manager
Contacts: All Kitchen staff, suppliers, contractors and other Departments

Purpose of Job:
To assist the Exec Chef and Kitchen Management to maximise the business potential of the Catering operation through effective delivery of an excellent customer experience.
The Chef will be expected to uphold Watershed business values, be an excellent team player and deliver a high standard of product. The post holder will be passionate about food and drink to ensure that Watershed remains the most welcoming and inclusive Bristol city venue for social, business and creative meetings, and that catering continues to generate a financial contribution for Watershed.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Preparing food for the Café Bar and conference requirements including compiling menu items for service.
- Ensuring kitchen areas and equipment are maintained to the highest possible standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Under the supervision of Senior Chefs, maintaining systems regarding product quality, stock control, portion control and minimising wastage.
- Under the supervision of Senior Chefs, placing food orders with suppliers and ensuring food deliveries are handled and stored correctly.
- Working alongside all members of the kitchen team to ensure standards and good working relationships are maintained.
- Closing the kitchen area properly when on late shift, including storing food correctly, cleaning surfaces and leaving adequate provision for chefs the following morning.
- Compliance with all hygiene, health and safety regulations relating to food and catering establishments.
- Attend internal and/or external training courses when applicable and complete in-house on job training to promote personal development and meet the requirements of the post.
- Actively support, encourage and have an awareness of general Watershed activities.
- In the absence of Senior Chefs or the Prep. Chef supervise the Kitchen Assistants and monitor progress of daily preparation and cleaning schedules.
Key Performance Indicators:
- Prepares food for Café Bar and conferences to a high standard
- Ensures kitchen areas clean and safe
- Maintains systems regarding quality and minimising wastage
- Is an active and supportive member of the Kitchen team
- When Chefs not present, ensures food orders and deliveries handled appropriately
- Complies with hygiene, health and safety regulations at all times
Person Specification:
Skills & Experience:
- A team player, supervisor and excellent communicator
- An experienced and capable chef
- Has previous experience in a commercially branded environment with an appreciation for a distinctive and creative offer
- Has an understanding of cost control systems and there relation to financial targets
- Previous experience of delivering an offer that is informed by seasonal/local/organic and nutritional values
- Previous experience in a customer focused environment
- Health and Safety and Food Hygiene training/certification
- Appreciation for working in an arts environment
