The dreary month of February is just over and although spring feels like it's only round the corner, we still have to put up with a few chilly evenings yet.
Never fear: it may be grim outside but we’ll welcome you with open Watershed arms - and not only that, we’ll give you 10% off your order in the Café/Bar too! Yep, you heard us right: get 10% off food and drink from 21:00 until closing time.
Celebrate two of Bristol’s biggest exports – street art and music – at BEAM Live, a brand new experimental music and art night at Watershed on Thu 29 March. Three of Bristol’s internationally acclaimed talents – DJs Scott Hendy and Cheeba and street artist Inkie – will combine forces to create a truly unique Bristol take on the classic song Windmills of Your Mind.
Every year our programme team visit a host of film festivals - the likes of Cannes, Berlin, Toronto and Tampere are highlights in the industry calendar - in search of films, partnerships and creative ideas they can bring back to Bristol, to Watershed, and to you.
Everyone has fallen in love with The Artist.
Over 13,000 of you have been to see it here at Watershed, making Michel Hazanavicius' multiple award-winner our most successful film ever (we're thirty years young in June with some 7500 films under our belt, so it's certainly no mean feat). Why has it been so popular? We sat down with Head of Programme Mark Cosgrove to discuss why this joyous silent movie has made such a big noise.
In partnership with the British Council we are bringing ten leading international artists from across East Asia and the UK to spend next week (20-24 Feb) working together in the Pervasive Media Studio using the theme of the ‘playable city’.
These talented artists will spend the week sharing their ideas and thinking to experiment and prototype playful interventions - using creative technologies to rethink the public space around Watershed and the Harbourside.
Could you be part of our future? Now is the time to find out! We are very excited to announce Future Producers – our new development project for 18 – 25 year olds – a unique opportunity to get a foot in the door in the creative industries right here at Watershed. We are looking to recruit a group of talented young people, committed to creativity and to making things happen.
It’s that time of year again – our programme team has braved the bitter Berlin cold (minus 16!) to head on out to the 62nd Berlin Film Festival in search of films, partnerships and creative ideas they can bring back to Bristol, to Watershed, and to you.
Before our Head of Programme Mark Cosgrove packed his bags, he sat down to share what he’s most looking forward to at the Festival:
This Saturday (11 Feb) at 13:00 we'll be screening The Night Of The Hunter, one of cinema's bonafide masterworks. A failure on its initial release, only in recent years has it finally achieved the masterpiece status it so overwhelmingly deserves - and this is an extremely rare chance to see it in all of its cinematic glory.
