Creative Technology Network Launch: Pixar

In July Michael B Johnson (Moving Pictures Group Lead at Pixar Animation Studios) will launch the Creative Technology Network.This new initiative is an exciting opportunity to bring together the cutting-edge computing and communications industry in Bristol with the resident creative talent. It will enhance opportunities for research and innovation, critical to the UK economy, and will showcase and promote the significant projects already taking place in the city to the rest of the world.
Michael B Johnson is the man behind some of the most groundbreaking techniques of Pixar Animation Studios, having worked on feature films including Monsters Inc and The Incredibles, he will launch the Creative Technology Network on Thursday 19 July. Johnson will discuss how collaborating on research between creativity and innovation at Pixar has resulted in some of the world’s greatest animated feature films of the last decade, he will also offer insights into some of the programmes and applications developed by his team to enable the production of these award-winning features.
The Creative Technology Network has been initiated by iShed, a new venture set up by Watershed to work in this area, and 3C Research, which supports joint research projects involving universities and commercial organisations, it’s a year-round programme that will feature events, workshops and discussion and will be supported by a specially-created website: creativetechnologynetwork.co.uk
The next Creative Technology Network event will be: Virtual Worlds: Innovation and Collaboration in Gaming in September 2007, Watershed, Bristol. A cross-disciplinary workshop exploring the potential of the games industry in Bristol.
