Flicker: A musical journey with moving images

Flicker: Lucas Looking at Camera

Watershed, in partnership with Bristol Silents, presents Flicker – a dynamic fusion of live music performance and moving image. Four stunning live events, taking place between Fri 23 and Sun 25 Sept explore the relationship between music and moving image projection, providing fertile territory for creative experimentation.

Flicker will take audiences on an exciting and varied musical journey – from Captain Beefheart guitarist Gary Lucas performing his score for Der Golem, to brand new work exploring the notion of contemporary ‘silent’ film; from French Surrealism with original composition, to a coach trip to a mystery location where ‘I Am The Mighty Jungulator’ will create a unique live experience.

“Flicker is by far our most ambitious project in three years of programmes at Watershed. What makes it so different to anything we’ve done previously is the focus on live music performance fusing with the image onscreen to create a unique live experience. This is world class music, cinema and live performance at its best!”

The organisers were especially delighted that Gary Lucas would be able to attend as one of only two UK dates this September. Lucas said of his forthcoming trip:

“I always enjoy performing in England (I am a dyed in the wool anglophile...) and having the chance to present this work before British audiences means a lot. Of all the many projects I am involved in, The Golem is very dear to my heart; each time I play to it I see something new, magical and different about it that further inspires me.”
