Watershed is celebrating its 30th Birthday on Thu 7 June. The world was a very different place 30 years ago. No mobile phones or internet. With an uncanny sense of foresight, Watershed opened in 1982, the only year in history that Time Magazine’s Person of The Year was a computer.

English Lager comes to Watershed - at last!

A decent English lager available at Watershed? Really?

Our Exec Chef Oliver Pratt is always on the look out for locally sourced products and his latest addition to Watershed’s Plot to Plate family can be found behind the bar from this week. The tasty new brews come from the independent Cotswold Brewery, based in nearby Gloucestershire – which means we are slicing yet more of our food miles: we wave goodbye to some of our Continental lagers to make room for these homegrown fine brews. The selection on offer includes Cotswold Lager, Cotswold 3.8, Cotswold Dark plus a delicious Cider. These new products are all available on tap – so come and ask for a taste first to see which one is right for you.

Oliver says: “I’ve been waiting for a very long time for a great English lager to add to Watershed’s bar offer and finally here it is! The lager is light, fruity and refreshing – just right, I’d say. The Dark is more ‘wintery’ with a bitter finish, and the 3.8 has lower ABV for lighter drinking. And what’s more February is the perfect opportunity to try out these new tipples at an excellent price – with our 10% off after 9 o’clock, a pint after a film will cost you only £3.15 – got to be worth a try!”

He continues, “We always try to work with local suppliers and I’m really pleased to add this English brewery to our roster. The brewery does not use preservatives or additives and the beers are not pasteurised. Cotswold’s philosophy is that the beers should be made, delivered and sold within as short a time frame as possible which is why they are only available regionally.”

Cotswold was established six years ago as one of the first independent breweries in England dedicated to lager. Their goal is to brew lager in the Continental style using only four ingredients: water, hops, malted barley and yeast and nothing else. They are an independent, family owned and run brewery that is passionate about making quality specialist beers - a great match for what we offer at Watershed.

Oliver adds: “The proof is in the tasting – so please come and try for yourself!” Let us know what you think after you've sampled the new drinks too. Non-beer drinkers might be interested that we are currently offering a bottle of wine - either El Viento or Appregio - at just £13.00 too!
