Following a fantastic few weeks in his company, it is time to bid farewell to our Artist in Residence Ashley James Brown, as he ends his tenure with the Studio. From patchable noise synths to sonic sea shells, Ashley has been developing some exciting projects and  we look forward to welcoming him back in September to present a showcase of his work, which will no doubt involve playing with his collection of gadgets and toys! You can read more about Ashley's sandy beach adventures and noisy developments via the blog he's been keeping.

On Wednesday 12 August, we welcomed New and Emerging Talent resident Vitória Maurício and her colleagues from Open Bionics to the studio to hold a workshop aimed at discovering what thoughts amputees had about prosthetic limbs and their desirable functions. We invited individuals with a range of ages, backgrounds and levels of disability to participate in a fascinating and inspiring session. The day proved to be greatly beneficial, with some quality insights and user-testing gained, and we eagerly anticipate any physical outcomes. Illustrated documentation of the day can be viewed here. Now half way through their journey, you can get updated with the New and Emerging Talent residents' progress via their blogs.

Resident Tim Kindberg launched his global event Time for Rights at 12:15pm, also on Wednesday 12 August. This initiative aimed to encourage young people around the world to use his Nth Screen app to make a 6 second film, explaining what human right was most important to them, to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta. The event was a success, drawing in submissions from 9 countries across 4 continents. Aside from their upload to Instagram, Tim is currently collating the submissions and using them to create a 3-Dimensional globe mosaic which can be viewed here.

Wednesday 12 August was a busy day indeed - Daredevil Project launched their competitive photo app Duel worldwide on the Apple App Store. This follows months of extensive testing and trialling, resulting in a slick and beautifully designed product. Try it for yourself and Duel your friends by downloading from the app store.

Aside from his experiments into food and music, our own sonic chef, James Wheale of Understory, has been busy as ever this week - this time with the release of his latest single from his solo music project. James is an accomplished poet and he has developed a style of dark and atmospheric electronic music which perfectly compliments his poetic rhythm. Inspired by a visit to Iceland and edited to footage shot on his travels, you can watch his latest creative offering below.
