Channel Weather Symmetry

Channel Weather Symmetry is a location-aware sound & music walk exploring layers of history and myth, fact and fiction, at two similar locations either side of the Bristol Channel - Rhossili on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales, and Brean Down on the North Somerset coast.

The work consists of two main elements: music inspired by place, and abstract sound representations of the many fascinating stories. The weather plays a big part - storms, tsunamis, shipwrecks, a wrecked harbour, a besanded village, and wind! Lots of wind! The two headlands also share a number of symmetries that are expressed through sound.

The work was commissioned by the National Trust and Local Journeys, grant funded by the PRS for Music Foundation through their Beyond Borders programme, and developed by Geraint Ffrancon during a residency at the Pervasive Media Studio in Bristol in 2011 using AppFurnace.
