Dir: Akira Ogato
127 mins, 2005, Japan, Subtitled
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in Feb 2008
A serene meditation on opportunities missed and options not taken, Ogata’s second feature deals with the long suppressed love between a middle-aged man and woman. Keita, a local council employee, lives with his terminally ill wife Yoko, who suspects an unresolved romantic past between her husband and the woman who makes the daily milk delivery. Yoko’s dying wish is for the two to be reunited, but after more than 30 years of living in denial, will they be able to face their true feelings?
