Strawberry Shortcakes (15) S
Dir: Hitoshi Yazaki
127 mins, 2006, Japan, Subtitled
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in Feb 2008
Based on the manga by Kiriko Nananan, this magnificently acted drama follows the stories of four very different 20-something women as they attempt to navigate life and love in contemporary Tokyo. Funny, warm and beautifully composed, Yazaki seamlessly weaves the disparate strands into a flawless whole, contributing a very welcome addition to the growing number of manga-inspired films which stands out for its truly intelligent and realistic portrayal of women.
