Breakfast with Scot (18)
Dir: Laurie Lynd
Cast: Cameron Ansell / Benz Antoine 95 mins, 2007, Canada
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in July 2008
Sam, a former professional ice-hockey player who now works as a sports broadcaster, finds his machismo threatened when his partner Ed’s 11 year-old nephew Scot comes to live with them. Scot is an expert knitter addicted to boas, makeup and show tunes and, terrified that he will be persecuted ruthlessly at school, Sam decides to straighten him out – with hilarious and affecting results. Thoroughly clever and charming, the film expertly unpicks both Sam’s divided psyche and the sports world in general which traditionally operates on a false and dated notion of masculinity.

Roman Polanski's latest sees two couples try to talk through a minor incident amicably - with quite the opposite result! A hysterically funny descent into some very, very enjoyable bad behaviour.
