A double bill screening of Under African Skies: Mali (1989) & Bamako Beat: Music from Mali (1991) with an introduction by award-winning director Mark Kidel, one of the world’s leading makers of arts and music documentaries.
Mali arguably produces the best music in Africa, and these stunning films travel an exhilarating journey through the country’s post-independence musical landscape. Live performances, including from the legendary Rail Band alongside demonstrations of traditional drumming and Malian guitar, feature a mix of Cuban, rock and soul influences laid over the firm grounding of Manding and Bambara musical traditions. With an introduction by award-winning director Kidel, one of the world’s leading makers of arts and music documentaries.
