Sunshine Cleaning (15)
Dir: Christine Jeffs
Cast: Emily Blunt, Amy Adams 91 mins, 2008, USA
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in June 2009
A hit at this year’s Sundance festival, this charmingly oddball dark comedy looks at the messy side of life and death as two young women launch their own highly specialised cleaning service. Amy Adams (Junebug) and Emily Blunt (My Summer of Love) give vivacious performances as a pair of polar opposite sisters – the former is a hard-working single mum, while the latter is a cynical but wayward bruised heart – lured by the profit to be made in cleaning up crime scenes. Alan Arkin and Steve Zahn are reliably excellent in supporting roles, but the centrepiece of this sweetly funny film is the tangible and touching chemistry between Adams and Blunt, two of the best young actresses working today.

Roman Polanski's latest sees two couples try to talk through a minor incident amicably - with quite the opposite result! A hysterically funny descent into some very, very enjoyable bad behaviour.
