Shank (18)
Dir: Simon Pearce
Cast: Wayne Virgo 89 mins, 2008, UK
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in Sept 2009
Worlds collide in this gritty, Bristol-based coming of age tale. Cal, a young gang member, has nothing in his life except drugs, sex, random acts of violence and a secret that he keeps hidden from his mates. Harbouring an unspoken desire for his best mate, Jonno, Cal becomes involved with Olivier, a local student, and an ugly conflict threatens between the friends and their foul-mouthed, controlling gang leader Nessa. Compelling, unique and full of energy, Shank’s refreshing take on British gay youth culture returns to Watershed after a sold-out Bristol preview in July.

A festival of film and music
We're mad about music and film. So much so we've created a brand new festival dedicated to this most enduring of relationships, and it all kicks off this weekend with a special focus on the music of the maestro himself: Ennio Morricone.
