Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (15) S
Dir: Mamoru Oshii
83 mins, 2008, Japan, Subtitled
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in Oct 2009
A remastered version of the 1995 cyberpunk classic Ghost in the Shell featuring a new soundtrack, colour palette, computer graphics and enhanced digital effects. Set in Hong Kong in the year 2029, a time when cyberspace is expanding into human reality, it follows top cyborg officer Major Motoko Kusanagi as she sets out to catch The Puppet Master. An elite hacker, The Puppet Master can even hack human minds to rob them of their memories. A gloriously beautiful update of great subtlety that adds a new dimension to Mamoru Oshii’s adored original.
Don't miss Arnolfini's Japanese season also in October Pigs, Eels & Insects: Reassessing The Legacy of Shohei Imamura. The only Japanese director to twice win the Palme d'Or at Cannes, Imamura was a crucial, yet ambiguous, figure in the Japanese new wave.

A festival of film and music
We're mad about music and film. So much so we've created a brand new festival dedicated to this most enduring of relationships, and it all kicks off this weekend with a special focus on the music of the maestro himself: Ennio Morricone.
