An Education (12A)
Dir: Lone Scherfig
Cast: Peter Sarsgaard, Carey Mulligan, Alfred Molina 95 mins, 2009, UK
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in Oct 2009
An endearing coming-of-age story adapted by Nick Hornby from Lynn Barber’s memoir. It’s 1961 and London schoolgirl Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is stifled by the tedium of her adolescent routine; she can’t wait to enter Oxford University to begin adult life and liberate herself from her conservative father. Her mundane suburban existence is capsized by the arrival of a much older suitor, David (Peter Sarsgaard), who introduces Jenny to his sophisticated life of hip, smoky jazz clubs, art auctions and Paris. Her studies soon start to suffer as her traditional education is replaced by David’s own, more dangerous version. As she is tempted by another kind of life, will David be the making of Jenny or her undoing?

A festival of film and music
We're mad about music and film. So much so we've created a brand new festival dedicated to this most enduring of relationships, and it all kicks off this weekend with a special focus on the music of the maestro himself: Ennio Morricone.

Roman Polanski's latest sees two couples try to talk through a minor incident amicably - with quite the opposite result! A hysterically funny descent into some very, very enjoyable bad behaviour.
