Micmacs (12A) S
Dir: Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Cast: Dany Boon, Dominique Pinon, Julie Ferrier 92 mins, 2009, France, Subtitled
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in Feb 2010
French superstar Dany Boon is Bazil, a man whose life is destroyed when he is orphaned and wounded by munitions from two competing arms manufacturers. Jobless and penniless, he is taken in by a family of endearing misfits who live beneath a Parisian junkyard salvaging scrap metal. Together the gang, each with their own eccentric specialty (a former human cannonball, a numbers genius, a bendy contortionist), set out to pitch the manufacturers against each other in a series of brilliant tricks. Bursting with imagination and Jeunet's celebrated magical realism, this is a whimsical cross between his previous hits Amélie and Delicatessen that balances witty satire and childlike playfulness. Slapstick comedy that is pure, unabashed fun.

A festival of film and music
We're mad about music and film. So much so we've created a new festival dedicated to this most enduring of relationships, and this month there's a focus on the music of the maestro Ennio Morricone.
