Nolan's (Memento, Batman Begins) taut black and white debut took a year to complete as his crew could only work weekends. The hard work paid off: this is a great slice of neo-noir about Bill, a failed writer who starts voyeuristically following people around London. When Cobb, a dapper gentleman, catches him in the act, Bill is drawn into his world of breaking into strangers? homes and rifling around their belongings. Soon, however, Bill starts to fall into something way over his head. With an ingenious flash-forward structure and a claustrophobic intensity, Nolan proves that suspense and atmosphere have a value money just can't buy.
