The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (18) S
Dir: Niels Arden Oplev
Cast: Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace 153 mins, 2009, Sweden/Denmark/Germany, Subtitled
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in March 2010
Based on the first book in Stieg Larsson's bestselling 'Millennium' trilogy, this slow burning crime thriller has broken all box office records across Scandinavia. Michael Nyqvist is Blomkvist, a jaded journalist hired by an old industrialist to investigate the disappearance of his niece 40 years ago. He is joined by Salander (Noomi Rapace), a pierced and tattooed antisocial private investigator and computer hacker. When they begin to link the disappearance to a series of horrific murders, a hidden enemy wants to keep them silent. As complex, intelligent and challenging as its source material, this a tense slice of Swedish drama that is a cut above the rest.

Roman Polanski's latest is a hysterically funny descent into some very, very enjoyable bad behaviour as two sets of parents try (and fail) to talk through an incident amicably.
