Decalogue 2001: Mulholland Drive (15)

The second in a series of year-long events reflecting on cinema from 2000 - 09. Each month we select a film from each year which stands out as in some way redefining and shaping the second century of cinema. Presented with Film Department at Bristol University.

David Lynch's career has been about single handedly redefining our idea of cinema. In a recent edition of Film Comment magazine, this luscious, surreal and unsettling neo-noir thriller was cited as one of the decade's defining films. Unashamedly bizarre, it follows an amnesiac woman who stumbles into aspiring actress Betty's (Naomi Watts) life. As the pair fall in love and search for the woman's identity things begin to get very weird indeed. A seductive dreamscape from a hypnotising master of cinema.

Decalogue 'creators', Mark Cosgrove, Head of Programme, and Adam O'Brien, PhD student at Bristol University, will introduce the screening and discuss the film's impact and significance.

Join the debate: you can message Watershed's Head of Programme Mark Cosgrove directly using Twitter @msc45 or @wshed, using #decalogue.
