Scandinavian Chillers: Let the Right One In (15) S
Dir: Tomas Alfredson
Cast: Kåre Hedebrant, Lina Leandersson 114 mins, 2008, Sweden, Subtitled
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in March 2010
A fragile, anxious boy, 12 year-old Oskar is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. The lonely boy’s wish for a friend seems to comes true when Eli, a girl his own age, moves in next door. A delicate romance begins to bloom, though it becomes apparent that Eli is more than she seems as a series of gruesome murders engulfs the two fragile teenagers in a dark and despairing world. Tinged with bittersweet moments, this critically acclaimed thriller weaves friendship, rejection and loyalty into a disturbing, darkly atmospheric, yet unexpectedly humorous and tender tableau of adolescence.

A festival of film and music
