The Headless Woman (12A) S
Dir: Lucrecia Martel
Cast: Maria Onetto, Claudio Cantero 89 mins, 2008, Argentina, Subtitled
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in April 2010
Beautiful, affluent dentist Veronica (Maria Onetto) hits something violently while she is speeding along a dust road. But what is it: a dog? Or one of the slum children that play on the curbside? She doesn't stop to investigate instead returning to her bourgeois life, into a nightmare of guilt and denial, while those closest to her move to protect her secret. A spellbinding third film from Argentinian auteur Martel (La Cienega, The Holy Girl), this is a mature, mystifying work that has been called "nothing short of a masterpiece" by the Guardian. What happened? Watch it closely, for every frame in this extraordinary film contains clues to its numerous mysteries
5/5 Disturbing and deeply mysterious, this tale of ghosts and guilt is nothing short of a masterpiece. Guardian

Destined to become a classic... you'd have to be headless or heartless yourself not to let this extraordinary, eerie film get under your skin. Independent
5/5 This could be one of the greatest films ever made about the emotional realities of a damaged mind. Time Out
