The Ghost (15)
Dir: Roman Polanski
Cast: Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan 128 mins, 2010, France/Germany/UK
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in April 2010
The Ghost is a sophisticated political thriller based on Robert Harris's bestselling book. Ewan McGregor is The Ghost, a ghostwriter hired by former Prime Minister Adam Lang (a superb against-type Pierce Brosnan) to complete his memoirs after his predecessor died in an unfortunate accident. Things slowly start to unravel when Lang is accused of war crimes and a dark secret links him to the CIA. Was Lang working for American intelligence while he was Prime Minister? Was someone murdered for uncovering the awful truth? A thrilling story of deceit and betrayal on every conceivable level - sexual, political and literary.
4/5 Roman Polanski's deft take on Robert Harris's political thriller is the director's most purely enjoyable film for years. Guardian
