I'm With The Band: The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights (CTBA)
Dir: Emmett Malloy
Cast: Jack White/Meg White 93 mins, 2009, USA
Please note: this was screened in April 2010
In 2007 The White Stripes celebrated their 10th anniversary by embarking on a cross-country Canadian tour. Cameras were invited along for the ride and the result is a visually stirring film that manages to capture a glimpse of the inner workings of one of music's most mysterious acts. In addition to playing a show in every province the duo held a string of impromptu gigs in unusual locations (a bowling alley, a city bus, a flour mill) and made a series of poignant side-trips. It is during these experiences, sharing songs with Inuit elders and eating raw caribou, that the pair finally let down their famously controlled facade.
