I'm With The Band: Oil City Confidential (15)
Dir: Julien Temple
Cast: Lee Billeaux/Wilko Johnson/John Martin 112 mins, 2009, UK
Please note: this was screened in April 2010
Acclaimed rock documentarian Julien Temple follows his films about the Sex Pistols and Joe Strummer to focus on Dr Feelgood, a cult band who never scaled the heights of those previous subjects but nonetheless paved the way for punk music. This is a moving rock and roll history of one of Britain's most unjustly overlooked bands, examining their brief 1970's success and the formative influence of their hometown Canvey Island, the Oil City of the title. Temple's anarchic, irreverent cinematic style complements the band's electric energy in this spirited study of personality, punk, and place.
