St Pauls Carnival Fringe Season: The Little Ones + Jemima and Johnny (PG)
Dir: Jim O'Connolly/Lionel Ngakane
Cast: Carl Gonzales, Kim Smith, Nicolette Robinson, Patrick Hatfield 66 mins, 1965, UK
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in July 2010
This is a far from sentimental tale of the adventures of two ten-year old boys - one white, one mixed-race - as they flee poverty and parents in Notting Hill simmering with racial tension. Complemented by South African filmmaker in exile Ngakane's acutely observed story of children oblivious to the divisions of race, this BFI double-bill is a rare insight into the multiculturalism of mid-60s London.
Presented with the BFI National Archive.
