Très Tati: Jour de Fête (U) S
Dir: Jacques Tati
Cast: Jacques Tati 73 mins, 1949, France, Subtitled
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in Aug 2010
Tati's first feature length film is a hilarious look at the modern obsession with speed and efficiency. Tati plays the postman in a sleepy French village where he will happily delay his deliveries for a quick chat. When the fair comes to town, however, the village is shown a newsreel championing the fast US mail system and he is encouraged to speed up his deliveries on his bicycle. A wonderful blend of satire and slapstick that features perfect comic timing, intricate stunts and enthusiastic performances.
Très Tati Sunday Brunches

To celebrate the release of The Illusionist, based on a screenplay by Jacques Tati, we present a season of the actor/director's delightful films. Pure joy on celluloid!

Roman Polanski's latest is a hysterically funny descent into some very, very enjoyable bad behaviour as two sets of parents try (and fail) to talk through an incident amicably.
