Très Tati: Playtime (U) S
Dir: Jacques Tati
Cast: Jacques Tati 125 mins, 1967, France, Subtitled
Please note: this was screened in Aug 2010
This hugely ambitious film was a massive, bank-breaking production: over three years Tati created his own city, replete with buildings, roads and traffic lights. Through its streets wanders Hulot (Tati), continuing his battle with the modern world as he gets caught up with a group of American tourists. Shot on grand 70mm and featuring a cast of hundreds, the film is so rich and detailed that one critic wondered if it had to be seen not only several times, but from different points in the cinema. Truly sensational and regarded by many as Tati's masterpiece.
Très Tati Sunday Brunches
