My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done (15)
Dir: Werner Herzog
Cast: Michael Shannon, Willem Dafoe 91 mins, 2009, USA/Germany
Please note: this is an old screening, first shown in Sept 2010
Produced by David Lynch and directed by Werner Herzog, this mesmerisingly strange tale of American madness is as bizarre as you would expect when two of cinema's most eccentric auteurs join forces.
Brad (Michael Shannon) killed his own mother with a sword after becoming obsessed by a Greek tragedy he was rehearsing. He begins a stand-off with two mystery hostages while a detective (Willem Dafoe) starts to piece together the strange story of how he snapped with the help of his friends and neighbours. Stuffed with unconventional references to Lynch and Herzog's previous work, this is a fascinating, twisted take on one man's painful unravelling.

A festival of film and music
We're mad about music and film. So much so we've created a new festival dedicated to this most enduring of relationships, and this month there's a focus on the music of the maestro Ennio Morricone.
