Festival of Ideas: The Problem with Capitalism

Capitalism is in deep crisis with the failure of the banks leading many to question fundamentally whether the market can continue to deliver. In his new book, 23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism, Ha-Joon Chang dispels the myths and prejudices that have come to dominate understanding of how the world works and shows that economic choices are political ones, and how it's time to be honest about this. He discusses capitalism with John Lanchester, author of Whoops!: Why everyone owes everyone and no one can pay, the finest book to come out on the financial crisis, in which he travels with reckless bankers, snoozing regulators, complacent politicians, predatory lenders, credit-drunk spendthrifts, and innocent bystanders to understand deeply and genuinely what is happening to the world.

Fee: £7.00 full / £5.50 concessions.
