The Story Of Lover's Rock (12A)
Dir: Menelik Shabazz
96 mins, 2009, UK
Please note: this was screened in Dec 2011
We are delighted to be bringing The Story Of Lover's Rock back after an overwhelming public response. The documentary charts the emergence of 'romantic reggae', a uniquely black British sound that came out of the late 70s and 80s against riots, racial tension and sound systems. Director Menelik Shabazz includes live performance, comedy, dance, interviews (Maxi Priest, UB40, Gregory Isaacs, Janet Kay, Tippa Irie and others) and archive footage in this evocative film to capture the spirit of Lovers Rock.
