Anyone Can Play Guitar + Q&A (15)
Dir: Jon Spira
124 mins, 2009, UK
Please note: this was screened in Nov 2011
Certain music scenes in the UK are legendary: Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol and Sheffield all have a regional musical heritage. But what about Oxford, a city that produced such genre-defining acts as Radiohead, Foals, Supergrass, Ride and Swervedriver? This documentary, narrated by Stewart Lee, charts 30 years of its music scene, interviewing bands, promoters, journalists and gig-goers to tell its story of success, failure, community spirit, and the harsh realities of the industry. Highlighting the bands who didn't quite make it as well as the ones who did, a celebration of a city and its music, a place that continues to be a hotbed of creativity.
Followed by a Q&A with Director and musician Mark Gardener.
