Robert Mugabe... What Happened? (18)
Dir: Simon Bright
82 mins, 2011, Zimbabwe
Please note: this was screened in Dec 2011
Following its sellout screening as part of October's Afrika Eye Festial we are delighted to be screening this fascinating documentary. Mugabe has frequently been in the news but this is a chance to watch the Shakespearean rise and fall of the man who built a successful African country, and then destroyed it. Damned as a terrorist, knighted by Queen Elizabeth then suspended from the Commonwealth, Mugabe's still in power after 30 years. The film explores what happened through interviews with some of his comrades and a collection of archive material that powerfully evokes his reign.
Presented in partnership with Afrika Eye.
