Midnight In Paris (12A)
Dir: Woody Allen
Cast: Rachel McAdams, Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard 94 mins, 2011, Spain/USA
Please note: this was screened in Dec 2011
Owen Wilson is Gil, a disillusioned Hollywood screenwriter and wannabe novelist on holiday in Paris with his unsupportive fiancée (Rachel McAdams) and her Republican parents. While strolling along the Left Bank searching for inspiration one night he is transported back to the 1920s and into the creative company of Gertrude Stein, Cole Porter, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Dali, and Bunuel to name but a few - a lost world of fun, art, and life where Picasso's muse (Marion Cotillard) makes him doubt whether to ever go back to the present day. Lighthearted, warm and fun, Woody has received rave reviews for what is already the most commercially successful film of his long career: it's a cinematic soufflé of nostalgia, romance, and the magic of the City of Lights.
