Sunday Brunches: Morricone's Spaghetti Westerns - Death Rides A Horse (15) S
Dir: Giulio Petroni
Cast: Lee Van Cleef, John Philip Law, Anthony Dawson 111 mins, 1967, Italy, Subtitled
Please note: this was screened in Feb 2012
Death Rides A Horse's brutally violent opening sees a young boy's family murdered in cold blood by a gang of outlaws. The boy, of course, becomes a revenge-fuelled gun-slinging adult, Bill (John Philip Law), out to kill them all whatever it takes - while Ryan (Lee Van Cleef), fresh from prison and sore at being double crossed, is hunting down the same gang to get his due. Who will get to them first? Powerful, hallucinatory, and with a tight thriller plot, Morricone's striking, idiosyncratic score makes ace use of choral chanting and boombastic drums. And yep, you guessed it: Tarantino recycled more of the score (and the blood red flashback scenes) for Kill Bill.
Fee: £4.60 full / £3.60 concessions and get £1.00 off all meal orders £6.95 or over in the Café/Bar on the same day with your ticket. See our full range of menus here.
