Lunchtime Talk: Integrating Pervasive Technologies with Cinematic and Immersive Theatre
Please note: this event took place in Jan 1970
Lunchtime Talks are a series of informal presentations at Watershed's Pervasive Media Studio. They normally take place at 13:00 on a Friday, are free and are open to everybody who is interested in what they do. Come along, bring a sandwich, and get to know more about the Studio community, current and up-coming projects, or residents' work.
Mason Robinson and Lukus Robbins are performance artists from Dartington College of Arts/University College Falmouth. As part of their course they have undertaken a Contextual Enquiry Project (CEP) in which they have been researching and developing a narrative exploration through performance and installation, allowing for interaction between device and performers, concentrating mainly on exploring the grey area between physical and virtual realities. The project uses Pervasive Media integrated with Cinematic Theatre and Immersive Theatre techniques with the intention of creating an interactive theatrical experience. Mason and Lukus have just finished a new talent residency at the Pervasive Media Studio in which they focused on combining existing technologies with performative practice.
The next stage of the project focuses on distilling this process into creating a theatrical experience. John Valencia de Valence, a performance artist and fellow Dartington/University College Falmouth student who has so far assisted the project in an advisory capacity, will now become a full member of the team.
In this talk they will discuss their research and development so far focusing on audience participation and device identity as well as talking about the next stages of the project, namely the devising process and implementation of the theatrical experience as well as the testing of the technology.
After the talk, you can stay at the Studio for the afternoon to continue the conversation or work on your own projects. The Studio provides chairs, tables, wireless and a great space. You bring what you need to work with (laptop/mobile). The open afternoons close at 17:00, usually with a trip to the Café/Bar.
The Pervasive Media Studio is now located within the Watershed building. Let us know if you'd like a tour of the new space and we'll be happy to show you around! Send an email to jason@pmstudio.co.uk
