Once Upon A Time In Anatolia (15) S

Ceylan's (Uzak, Three Monkeys) latest film, which picked up the Grand Prize at Cannes, is resoundingly epic both in ambition and achievement. Part crime drama, part road trip and part study of human nature, you are invited to go along for the ride with twelve men looking for a dead body buried deep in the Anatolian Steppes. Unfolding over a night and a day, the murder investigation gradually reveals more about the living than it does about the dead: ruminations on provincial life, human existence... and the merits of cheese. Visually stunning and dotted with lots of eccentric touches, this is a long, rigorous ride - but it's overwhelmingly worth it.
