Wildscreen 2012: Panda Award Winner - Saving Rhino Phila
52 mins, South Africa
Please note: this was screened in Oct 2012
From deep within a bloody conflict emerges a powerful story of survival. A new breed of poachers have recently gone to war on South Africa's rhino population, and against all odds one rhino has survived the onslaught. Her name is Phila.
Phila's story lures us into a world of organised crime and millionaire poachers armed to the teeth with automatic weapons, helicopters and night vision goggles. A host of offbeat characters are present too, from her owner and his shattered dreams to wildlife veterinarians arrested for poaching, crack police units and glamorous landowners lacing their rhinos horns with poison.
This film is a Wildscreen 2012 Panda Award Winner
