Once Upon a Time in Japan: Mai Mai Miracle (12A) S

This award-winning animation from director Sunao Katabuchi (a former assistant of the great Hayao Miyazaki) is full of adventure and spirit. Nine-year old Shinko is inspired by her grandfather's stories of their home town and imagines she has a way of connecting to the world around her, a thousand years before. When she makes a new friend with the upper class Kiiko, they quickly discover a shared fascination with history and she invites Kiiko to join in her magical time travel. Adapted from Nobuko Takagi's famous novel, Mai Mai Miracle is a beautifully animated nostalgic tale of friendship in post-war Japan.

Tickets: £8.00 full / £6.50 concessions. £2.50 for under 16s.
